The internet is a valuable resource and your computer is the tool that takes you there. Like all tools, your computer needs to be taken care of.

If your computer is running normally but behaving strangely (pop-ups, closing programs, etc.), then there is a virus to blame. Fortunately, there are almost as many ways to remove viruses as there are viruses to remove.

The other scourge of the internet is spyware. Spyware is a common term used to group together what is actually three different bits of software. The first is "real" spyware. This software sits behind the scenes, running constantly and gathering information about you. It watches your browsing habits and reports them back to a database that in turn is sold to people that assemble demographics.

The second offender is called malware. Malware is often received the same way as spyware, however, it does not run behind the scenes. It is constantly reminding you of its presence by changing your browsers homepage, shutting off your anti-virus program, along with many other negative affects. It can even embed itself in your registry, so just when you think you have eliminated it, it reinstalls.

The third and last offender is greyware. Greyware has just been labeled recently as a mixture of spyware and malware, or anything not clearly defined by either.

The following is a somewhat organized list of links I have compiled for you. Some of these you can download, install and run yourself. This is a great way to save yourself some extra money and get a little more acquainted with the seedy underworld of the internet.
